Objectives:

 

  1. Describe each step of the nursing process: assessment, analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  2. Explain how critical thinking is used in the nursing process
  3. Describe the purpose of and activities necessary for the nursing assessment.
  4. Differentiate between objective and subjective data.
  5. Describe how to organize data collected from the nursing assessment.
  6. Differentiate between a nursing diagnosis and a medical diagnosis.
  7. Identify common sources of error in formulating a nursing diagnosis.
  8. Using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs, prioritize
  9. Differentiate between a patient goal and an expected outcome and give an example of each.
  10. Describe the purpose and activities of outcome identification.
  11. Formulate an expected outcome based on a patient scenario.
  12. Describe the purposes and activities regarding planning nursing care.
  13. Formulate various types of nursing interventions based on a patient scenario.
  14. Differentiate between and among nursing orders, physician orders and collaborative orders.
  15. Discuss various methods of evaluation of a care plan.
  16. Given information obtained in an assessment, formulate a plan of care.
  17. Use the nursing process to provide basic care to an individual.
