  1. Patients suffering from nausea or experiencing difficulty swallowing may not tolerate medications administered via the enteral route. For a patient experiencing pain, appropriate alternate methods of medication administration may be transdermal medication administration. Transdermal medications are beneficial in that they provide a consistent level of drug into the bloodstream during distribution.
